Prof. Dr. Julia Kzhyshkowska
Head of Department of Innate Immunity and Tolerance,
Institute of Transfusion Medicine and Immunology,
Medical Faculty Mannheim, University of Heidelberg

Research Focus: the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Julia Kzhyshkowska studies the role of innate immunity in cancer, in diabetes, in the developmental and regenerative processes. In focus are the mechanisms of chronic inflammation, metabolic inflammation, tumor immuno-escape and interaction of immune cells with implanted biomaterials. Her work centers on monocyte and macrophage differentiation, programming and functions in pathology, aiming to identify new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for personalized medicine. The analytic approaches include ex vivo human macrophage modelling and functional analysis, NGS, epigenetic analysis, advanced imaging of intracellular transport, spatial transcriptomics of human tissues, mass spectrometry and single cell analytics of patients immune cells.
