
Jinyang Xu
Dr. Jinyang Xu, PHD, FIAAM, MSCS, is currently a Full Professor at the Faculty of Intelligence Technology, Shanghai Institute of Technology, China. He previously worked as an Associate Professor and a Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University from 2016 to 2025. He was ranked as the “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” by Elsevier (2024). He was listed as the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University for four consecutive years (2021-2024), and was included in the "Career-Long Impact List" in 2024. He received his M.Sc. (2013) in Mechanical Manufacturing & Automation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, and obtained his Ph.D. (2016) in Mechanical Engineering from Arts et Métiers ParisTech, France. His research interests focus on composites machining, numerical modeling, micro/nano cutting, and surface texturing. He has published over 160 articles in peer-reviewed journals and conferences including over 90 SCI journals as a first/corresponding author and over 70 articles as co-author, being cited over 5000 times with an h-index of 42 according to Google Scholar Citations. He edited 3 monographs, 5 book chapters, 10 int. conf. proceedings and 11 special issues. He has delivered more than 20 keynote lectures at various international conferences and has applied over 50 national patents, 20 of which have been granted. He has presided more than 10 national and provincial projects including the NSFC grants, the National Intergovernmental Cooperation Projects, the Sub-Project of National Key Research and Development Program, the Explorers Program of Shanghai, as well as a number of industrial projects. He is the Founding Editor of the International Journal of Product Sound Quality (IJPSQ) and holds the Editor-in-Chief positions of Journal of Coating Science and Technology (JCST), and International Journal of Precision Technology (IJPTech). He serves as an Associate Editor for esteemed journals such as Proc. IMechE Part E: J. Process. Mech. Eng. (SCIE/EI), Frontiers in Materials (SCIE/EI), The Journal of Engineering (ESCI/EI), and Int. J. Manuf. Mater. & Mech. Eng. (ESCI/SCOPUS). Moreover, he is on the Editorial Board of several SCI journals, including Green Materials, Journal of Superhard Materials, Coatings, Lubricants, etc. He holds over 900 peer reviews and over 100 editor records for various international journals including IJMTM, JMPT, JMP, IJMS, IJAMT, etc., verified by the Web of Science (WOS) (https://www.webofscience.com/wos/author/rid/G-8731-2011). He is the General Chair of the 2nd and 3rd International Conference on New Materials, Machinery and Vehicle Engineering (NMMVE2023/2024). He has been invited as Keynote/Invited Speakers, Section Chairs, and TPC members for a number of international conference series (e.g., APMAS, DSMIE, ICMEM, ICMTM, ICMSOA, ICEM, ICMD, ICMAT, NMMVE, etc.) with themes in materials science and manufacturing processes. For his notable research in the field of Materials Processing and Manufacturing, he was elected as a Fellow of IAAM, and was honored with the IAAM Scientist Medal (2020) and the Shanghai Pujiang Talents Program (2017). He received the Best Paper Awards at the NMMVE2024 (July 19-21, 2024, Dalian, China), the CMAMT2023 (August 2-4, 2023, Shenyang, China), the NMMVE2023 (June 2-4, 2023, Guiyang, China), the NMMVE2022 (March 18-20, 2022, Guilin, China), the CJUMP2017 (November 19-21, 2017, Shanghai, China) and the ISGMA2015 (June 23-27, 2015, Qingdao, China) conferences. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Outstanding Contribution Award of MDPI (2024), the Outstanding Youth Editor of the journal - Surface Technology (2024), the Excellent Reviewer of the journal - Manufacturing Technology & Machine Tool (2024), the First Prize of the 5th National Blended Teaching Design Innovation Competition for Universities (2023), the First Prize of the Blended Teaching Design Innovation Competition of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2023), the Top Cited Author Award of Wiley (2022), the Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing Award (Elsevier, 2016 & 2018), the Nominee of the Pierre Bézier Doctoral Dissertation Award (2016), the Outstanding Achievement Award of Graduate Students in Shanghai Municipality (2015), the National Scholarship for Studying Abroad (2013), the Excellent Graduate Award of Shanghai Municipality (2013), and the National Graduate Scholarship of China (2012). He was selected for the Longcheng Leading Talent Program of Changzhou City (2022). He is a fellow of IAAM and a senior member of SCS, CMES and CSCM.
